To facilitate works for the 36th Americas Cup a number of standalone works needed to be completed in the Waterfront area, the most significant being the $20 million relocation of the SeaLink ferry terminal.
MPS was appointed project manager by Panuku Development Auckland through the concept design and consenting stage. This part of the project included identifying and assessing a range of sites, preliminary design, safety simulations for berthing, environmental assessment (including relocation of bird habitats), obtaining resource consents and clearance/demolition of the preferred site. MPS was responsible for all programming, procurement, internal reporting, budgeting and stakeholder management.
The detailed design and construction works were brought into the Wynyard Edge Alliance who were already delivering the infrastructure to support the 36th America’s Cup. MPS continued being involved in the SeaLink project through its role as Asset Owner Representative within the Alliance.
While the new terminal was being developed it was important to keep the existing terminal functioning as close to normal as possible while other America Cup construction works continued on adjacent land and water space areas. Key issues included managing public safety. MPS was the essential interface between SeaLink and the Alliance facilitating multiple temporary changes to staging and operations (including temporary offices and call centre) during this period until the new terminal was ready.
MPS played a key role in the final handover and commissioning of the new terminal and successfully closing out the project on time and budget.
